You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path—the path of those You have blessed, not of those who earned Your anger or of those who went astray.

And what can make you know what the Crusher is? It is the fire of Allah, eternally fueled, which rises over the hearts. Indeed, it will be closed down upon them in extended columns.

Bonus: The Most Powerful Verse to Memorize: Ayat Al-Kursi (The Throne Verse)

While Ayat Al-Kursi isn’t a full Surah, it's only 3 lines long, making it as easy to memorize as the short Surahs above.

Ayat Al-Kursi (Quran 2:255) is one of the most important Quran verses and is essential for every Muslim to memorize because of its great value as a protection from the devil and all harm.

The Prophet ﷺ said Whoever recites it after every prayer, nothing will prevent them from entering Paradise except death.

Transliteration: Allahu la ilaha illa huwa, al-Hayyul-Qayyum. La ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm. Lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil-ard. Man dhal-ladhi yashfa'u 'indahu illa bi-idhnih. Ya'lamu ma bayna aydihim wa ma khalfahum. Wa la yuhituna bi shay'im-min 'ilmihi illa bima sha'. Wasi'a kursiyyuhus-samawati wal-ard. Wa la ya'uduhu hifdhuhuma. Wa huwal-'Aliyyul-'Adhim.

Meaning: Allah, there is no god except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation does not tire Him. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to memorize Juz Amma?

Most people with daily practice of 20-30 minutes will be able to memorize the Juz Amma (30th part that contains all the short Surahs) in 3-6 months. Children usually memorize faster because they have better retention skills. The main point is to stay consistent and take a few minutes to memorize every day. This is much better than doing sporadic long memorization sessions.

Should I learn Tajweed before memorizing?

Ideally, yes. Learning basic tajweed rules first helps to ensure you memorize correctly from the start. Correcting mistakes later is much harder than learning correctly from the start, but don't let this stop you. You can start working on simple Surahs while you learn Tajweed at the same time.

What is the reward for memorizing short Surahs?

For every letter of the Quran you recite, you earn 10 rewards. The Prophet ﷺ also said that Surah Al-Ikhlas counts as 1/3 of the Quran for reward. And for the shortest Surah, Al-Kawthar, reciting it earnestly carries a multitude of blessings. So it is the quality and understanding that matter more than the quantity.

Can children memorize these Surahs?

Absolutely! Children are better than anyone else at memorizing things. You can start with the easy Quran Surahs to memorize as the 3-verse Surahs (Al-Kawthar, An-Nasr, Al-Asr), and then you can progress from that. You can make it fun, reward them, and have a good time for positive reinforcement. When started early, many children finish Juz Amma by age 7-10.

What's the best time to memorize the Quran?

The ideal time is right after Fajr, but since it is the ideal time, it is really just anytime you can consistently show up. A lot of people like to memorize right before bed, or even during lunch breaks. Find a time that works best with your schedule, and you can stick to it.
